MARAVILLAS DEL MUNDO LP (MMM-021)
La URSS from Andalusia, Spain are a band that just keep getting better and better with each release and their third album, Maravillas del Mundo, is no exception. Released to coincide with their upcoming tour of the eastern half of the US, Maravillas del Mundo is a brilliant album -- well developed and dynamic. Fans of their previous releases already know that their live shows and recordings are top notch. This is melodic punk rock with heavy influences from Spanish greats like Paralisis Permanente, Larsen, KGB and La Uvi. Excellent guitar work and musicianship, lyrics and artwork put this album over the top -- their best work to date.
SPLIT 12" (MMM-019)
Split 12" from Bogota, Colombia's finest: SECTA and DEAD HERO. SECTA (formerly Secta Suicida) are back with their classic Spanish punk sound, though this time adding more hardcore (think LAMA) and dark post-punk tones. DEAD HERO is great female-fronted oi punk. Reports say that both bands stole the show at this year's VARNING FROM MONTREAL fest! Co-released with Rat Trap Records from Bogota. Features artwork by Alexander Heir.
330 pressed with 130 available in the US from Discos MMM.
DEMO TAPE (MMM-018)
This is the US pressing of the DEAD HERO demo tape. DEAD HERO is a female-fronted punk rock oi band with members of SECTA SUICIDA from Bogota, Colombia. They will be playing this year's VARNING FROM MONTREAL Fest and MMM is very excited to bring their music stateside. Think classic punk and oi like THE EXPELLED, ONE WAY SYSTEM, and LAST RESORT with their own Colombian twist. Great stuff.
S/T 7" (MMM-015)
Spain has been on the top of its game lately for great punk bands and RATA NEGRA is no exception. The band formed when "Juanita" from JUANITA Y LOS FEOS and Pablo, drummer for LA URSS got together in Madrid and started playing. The result is just what you would hope, top notch melodic and dark punk along the lines of ULTIMO RESORTE, AGENT ORANGE, ADOLESCENTS and even WIPERS. Here is their debut 7" giving you 4 songs. Folks in LA already got a shot at the 7" when RATA NEGRA played a house party last month around the JUANITA Y LOS FEOS U.S./Mexico tour.
300 pressed with the first 25 mailorders on random color vinyl.
S/T 7" (MMM-014)
LA’s AUSENCIA put to vinyl 4 songs from their excellent demo tape. Remixed and mastered, these tracks sound better than ever. AUSENCIA features regulars of the LA punk scene but brings a much more melodic punk, even French Oi-influenced feel to their sound. Comparisons therefore gravitate towards Camera Silens or Komintern Sect, which are not unfounded. The songs are uplifting with gruff vocals and a knack for superb song structure. The title track “Ausencia” is an unstoppable anthem, just try not to sing along with the chanting chorus again and again and again. Art done by Krab and risograph design/packaging by Abe Social.
One time press of 400 with limited copies on color vinyl for first mailorders.
ANSIEDAD 7" (MMM-013)
Four new blazers from LA's Rayos X. For five years now, Rayos X have been one of THE best in Los Angeles punk, helping to define a sound: a perfect mixture of hardcore, melodic punk, lyrics about anxiety and alienation. Put that together with a raw recording that translates the live energy of the band and hand screened art and packaging and you get the idea. Rayos X are on the top of their game with this one. Not a dud in the bunch.
S/T CASSETTE (MMM-012)
SECTA SUICIDA from Bogota, Colombia is a group as much inspired by the old sounds of classic Spanish punk, such as Commando 9mm, La Uvi and Larsen, as by the new sounds of punk today, such as Peligro Social. This 10-song cassette (which includes their new 4-song 7” co-released with Bogota’s Rat Trap Records) captures the wild energy of their live shows and top-notch song writing, explosive riffs and driving force, self-recorded and mixed by themselves. Complete with lyrics.
S/T 7" (MMM-011)
Bogota, Colombia is an unlikely place to find a punk band with a record, let alone a punk record--there are no record pressing plants and very few record stores throughout the whole country. SECTA SUICIDA is a group as much inspired by the old sounds of classic Spanish punk, such as Commando 9mm, La Uvi and Larsen, as by the new sounds of punk today, like Peligro Social, and inspired by making things happen on their own, by their own. I met them on tour last year in Colombia and picked up their 2013 demo tape that was assembled at their own screen-printing shop, Rat Trap Records. At the time, the thought of having their music pressed to vinyl was a distant one, but here it is: co-released with Bogota’s Rat Trap Records, SECTA SUICIDA 4-song 7" captures the wild energy of their live shows and top-notch song writing, explosive riffs and driving force, self-recorded and mixed by themselves. The color covers, designed by Rat Trap's Carlos Velasquez and screen-printed in Bogota put the heart and energy of their collective into this first vinyl release, a record that deserves to be heard worldwide, but is only a small sample of what Colombia punks have to offer. Complete with lyrics.
First press of 300 with 135 available outside of Colombia from Discos MMM.
WEST COAST TOUR7" (MMM-010)
Two new songs from Montreal's Proxy. These are the remaining copies from Proxy's recent West Coast tour ending in Tijuana at the Burnouts En Baja Fest.
300 pressed with stamped covers and labels, and "fine wine" stain unique to each record.
EL PROBLEMA ERES TU CASSETTE (MMM-09)
Fresh on the heels of a European tour and stop at NYC's Latino Fest, Mexico City's CRIMEN follow up their 1st LP and 7" with their 2nd album, available now on cassette. Expect the same ugly hardcore from their previous records, this time with a more developed sound that takes a nod not only from Swedish D-Beat but also dark post punk. Their best album to date, and the bass work is unstoppable. This release is bittersweet though, as it was supposed to be an LP co-released with Discos Enfermos (Spain) and Dogma Destroyer (Mexico) and out in time for their May European tour. However, at no fault of the labels, a middle man to the Spanish pressing plant ripped off Discos Enfermos. Not knowing if the LP would ever see the light of day, we knew this had to be released on some format because it's fucking awesome.
S/T LP (MMM-08)
Debut LP from Mallorca, Spain punks Decraneo that drips with classic influences such as THE BAGS and ULTIMO RESORTE yet still holds its own among fellow contemporaries LA URSS and LAS OTRAS. Excellent vocals, guitar work and delivery. Punk is alive and unwell in 2014. This is a collaboration between eight labels (two from USA, three from Mallorca, Spain, two from France, and one from Germany) with only 50 copies available from Discos MMM. 500 total pressed worldwide.
DECRANEO!!
Debut album from this San Francisco punk band that first caught my ear on their split 7" with Mexico's Los Monjo. Like Los Monjo (and like singer Jose's old band, Peligro Social), Ruleta Rusa take the big, anthemic riffs of old Spanish punk like Eskorbuto and inject them with the wild energy of 80s US hardcore, sealing the deal with a sprinkling of infectious, rocked-out lead guitar. Whether they're bashing out an upbeat singalong like "La Ley" or a darker, more downbeat song like the title track, Ruleta Rusa fill every moment with maximum power and energy. Recommended for punks who like punk.
LA VIDA QUE TODOS ENVIDIAN LP (MMM-06)
Los Monjo are here to take over the world with their signature brand of raw power. From the Oblatos hood of Guadalajara to the alleyways of Barcelona, Los Monjo are known for their explosive live shows and classic sound.
Frontman Tucho Monjo’s vitriol and swagger harkens back to the days of true performers like Iggy Pop. Lyrics are penned from the school of Eskorbuto, RIP, and MCD, sincere yet venomous. Peter Monjo’s guitar licks ignite, propelled by Rene and Cesar Monjo’s rolling backbeat. After three 7"s and two splits, Los Monjo deliver their debut full length, a masterful LP, effortlessly executed. These are anthems for generations to come. La mejor banda de Rock Basura del mundo!
500 pressed with 100 on clear vinyl.
SPLIT 7" (MMM-05)
Brand new split 7" between LA’s GENERACION SUICIDA and Ventura’s CATHOLIC SPIT.GS takes the sounds of Swedish/Danish melodic punk (think Masshysteri, Gorilla Angreb and Vicious) and mixes it with pogo-in-the-air KBD energy. Dual male/female vocals. Two songs from these LA raw punx.
The CS song, “Save Me,” is one of their best to date, reminiscent of 45 Grave and other dark punk/post-punk.
POLICE CAR 7" (MMM-04)
Three song ep, the 2nd slab of wax from Montreal’s PROXY, seamlessly blends aspects of GBH, MOTORHEAD and TOXIC REASONS. “Police Car” starts off this ep delivering an absolutely unapologetic smash anthem. If you’re not used to singing along word-for-word, you better get used to it! “Fountain of Youth” rounds out Side A, powerfully catchy and reminiscent of 80s UK punk greats. “Parasites” on the B Side treads down a slightly more experimental HAWKWIND path, though equally as blistering in solos, bass work and vocal delivery.
WE GOT OUR REASONS CASSETTE (MMM-03)
Like sharing a TNT-spiked cocktail with a one-eyed tramp, Oakland’s own problem child BAD COYOTES will make sure you’re feeling it in the morning. Combining the garage punk sensibilities of bands like THEE HEADCOATS, NEW BOMB TURKS and THE PAGANS and turning it up 5 knotches, BAD COYOTES dish it up. Feral music for feral people. This tape-only release features 12 house rockers you’ll want to hide from your parents.
S/T LP (MMM-02)
From the squatted vaults of Barcelona come anarcho punks Belgrado, recently touring through North America and leaving mouths agape. Belgrado play an original-sounding style of early eighties Wave Punk (see SIEKIERA, CORTEX and SKELETAL FAMILY) with a slight morbid feel and a dose of KILLING JOKE here and there. Heavy reverb on guitars and vocals, driving bass guitar with pounding drums. The vocals are reminiscent of Siouxsie Sioux with songs in English and others in Polish. Sound-wise this is close to the originals yet still sounds fresh and urgent. Limited US press of their s/t LP.
500 pressed with 100 on clear vinyl.
